Historically, architecture has mirrored the logics of permanence and control. Even in its interactive variations such as kinetic façades, smart glass, responsive shading the intelligence has remained external to the subject. The mind is an abstraction part of a user profile, a statistical average, or a demographic fiction.

With the DMT pavilion, we tried to move past this rigid format and create a system where architecture no longer reflects intent, but co-produces it. Our approach is to look at space not an interface you operate, but one that reacts to your presence intuitively.

The pavilion functions as a soft ritual space for social gathering. Participants wear EEG headsets that translate real-time brainwave activity (alpha, beta, theta) into spatial variables: light intensity, airflow, kinetic morphing of panels. But the experience is not individual.

The system aggregates signals from multiple users into a shared neuro-atmosphere, creating a state of collective cognitive feedback. The result is both meditative and experimental. A psycho-social ritual in which architecture becomes a mirror not of the self, but of shared cognitive presence.

Inside, the sensation is not one of control, but of attunement. The space breathes with you and pulses with others. Collective calm brings architectural stillness. Peaks of focus or arousal trigger subtle shifts: light ripple cascades, gradients change and low-undulation of the outer shell starts. Over time, a form of empathic mirroring emerges not through language, but through unconscious neural synchronization, mediated by the space itself.

The DMT Pavilion premiered at Nuit Blanche 2019 in Paris, installed in Parc de la Villette. During the festival it functioned both as an interactive installation and as a performance stage for concerts and musical events. Following the festival, the pavilion was relocated to Château Éphémère, where it continues to serve as an outdoor structure for events, gatherings, and open-air leisure creating a new meeting area for the local community.
